Training & Support
Training
Our initial 2-week training program consists of 18 hours in a classroom and 174 hours of on-the-job training at our corporate location in Washington, D.C., as well as on-site at the Owner’s location. During this time, new Owners will learn everything from recipes, ordering, ingredients, processes, POS (CAKE by Sysco), inventory, management, employee training, hiring, marketing, grand opening assistance, and location-specific opportunities.
Ongoing Support
The training and support will never end as we continuously grow and adapt. Brianna and Kyle will be present during the Grand Opening to ensure every last detail is accounted for a successful launch. Once the café is open, we will host bi-monthly calls to inform Owners of any new happenings, such as our Toast of the Weeks and seasonal promotions. We take pride in being available 24/7 for our Owners!
Field Support
Chief Construction Officer Kyle Izett will assist with site selection, permitting, contractor and subcontractor selection, and the entire construction and inspection process. He will review quotes to ensure that the build-out costs are at or below the market. If new Owners prefer, Kyle and the Toastique Team can perform the general contracting of new locations themselves. Either way, the construction process, which can often be highly intimidating, will be a walk in the park for new Owners.
Marketing
We require 2% of Gross Sales weekly for the Brand Development Fund, as well as 2% of Gross Sales spent on local marketing efforts. We have an internal marketing team with 12+ years of advertising and digital marketing experience to assist owners with their grand opening campaigns and provide current and new marketing assets.
Annual General Meetings
We host an annual meeting for our Owners, during which they come together to celebrate wins and discuss best practices.
History
Toastique Founder (and member of the current Forbes 30 Under 30 class) Brianna Keefe has always had a passion for health, wellness, and fitness. As a collegiate D1 athlete in need of quick, healthy meals to keep her energy up while on the go, she began experimenting with toast creations to provide the perfect combination of carbs, protein, and healthy fats in a quick, easy, grab-and-go form.
Brianna’s toast masterpieces inspired her to create a café that would combine her delicious, healthy, on-the-go toasts with the already proven concept of smoothies and cold-pressed juices. After she brought her idea to her partner, Kyle Izett, whose background is in commercial construction, he offered to design the first location and completed the build-out in only 40 days!
In 2018, after opening the first location in the Wharf district of Washington, D.C., the business blew Brianna and Kyle’s expectations out of the water! The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and they generated over $1 million in sales in their first year with no professional marketing! This success prompted them to open a second location in Alexandria, VA, in 2019 and then the Navy Yard location during the summer of 2020. Even amid the pandemic, Brianna and Kyle could scale to 3 locations extremely quickly — generating $522,000 in net profit in 2021.
Throughout the pandemic, Toastique quickly pivoted its model, implementing third-party delivery options and online ordering with great success. After repeated requests to expand, Brianna and Kyle decided that their gourmet toast business was too good to keep confined to the Northeast and decided to begin franchising across the country!
Since starting franchising, we have awarded 169 locations in the past three years!
