History
It all began with Jay Mason, or JD as we call him, our fearless leader, who comes from a family with a long history in painting. JD's father worked at Sherwin-Williams for his entire career, and JD followed in his footsteps by joining the company at the young age of 16. JD spent 12 years with Sherwin Williams, working his way up from a store associate to a manager, and eventually, an outside sales role. While working with painting contractors in his sales job, JD realized that he loved the paint industry but felt it was time for a change. He wanted to continue to problem-solve and grow within the industry, but he needed a new challenge.
Eventually, JD left SW and moved on to Five Star Painting, where he was hired to onboard and train new franchise partners. JD left the company after it was bought by The Dwyer Group and started his own business, Emerald Pro Painting, in 2015. There he found success, attracting like-minded individuals who wanted to build something similar.
Although he never intended to franchise, JD realized that he enjoyed his past roles because he was able to help others become successful in building a business for themselves. So, in 2017, the first FDD was filed and the brand experienced a nice bump with eight open and active franchisees leading into 2020. The company focused on single-unit operation and profitable territories for franchisees, with growth happening organically as JD brought in franchisees he trusted and respected. In 2020, the company rebranded to Paint EZ, investing in research and a new logo and branding to reach the masses nationally.
Despite the challenges posed by the COVID pandemic in 2020, Paint EZ's franchisees grew tremendously. The company redirected all its energy toward supporting franchisees and expanding its technology, system processes, and people. Jason Allen, Paint EZ's COO, comes from the software industry, focusing on leveraging technology for operational needs. Today, he helps franchise partners streamline operations, build sales playbooks, implement operational software, manage programs, and improve performance and efficiency, allowing franchise owners to save time and money while scaling their business.
